Durable Antiviral effect on various textiles! Innovative patent-pending technology

2021.10.14

Technology

While the need for textile products with antiviral functions is expanding in the market due to the corona crisis. There are major challenges such as "some materials are difficult to achieve the performance," "the performance does not come out after washing," and "difficulty to achieve the compatibility of performance of antiviral and low skin irritant". The expectation for the establishment of new technologies that can solve these issues has grown.

We have recently developed innovative processing method that solve these problems (patent pending), and have launched new technologies that are both human-friendly and environmentally sustainable. The features of this new processing method are as follows.

[Features of NICCA’s new Antiviral processing method]
・Various textiles meet ISO/JIS standards for laundry resistance
・Very safe, and skin irritation is about one-fifth that of the prior processing
・Exhibits about 7 times more antiviral properties compared to the prior processing
・The wastewater treatment load of dyeing processing mills by this processing technology is extremely low and environmentally friendly.

We introduced an Antiviral Testing Facility in November last year and could perform an equivalent evaluation to a public testing organization. This allowed us to rapidly accumulate our unique antiviral knowledge, leading to the development of this innovative technology. In the process of development, bulk tests using mass production facilities at dyeing mills are also conducted to confirm the performance.

[Outline of the test].
1. Test Methods: ISO 18184/JIS L1922 Antiviral Tests (Textile Products)
2. Test strain: influenza A virus (H3N2) ※1 / ATCC VR-1679 (envelope-type) ※1
3. Laboratory: NICCA CHEMICAL CO., LTD.
4. Test Material: (1) Polyester 100%, (2) Nylon/Polyurethane (72/18), (3) Polyester/Cotton (65/35), (4) 100% Cotton, (5) CD/R Polyester ※3 (50/50) etc.
5. Result: At least 99.9% virus reduction after 2 hours (both after 0 and 10 washes)

In the development of this new process, TOYO SENKO & CO., LTD. (Sakai City, Fukui Prefecture) provided on-site testing cooperation.

With this new processing technology, we can expect to impart antiviral properties to various apparel products such as uniforms for nursing care, cleaning, student uniforms, sportswear, and outerwear and restaurant, furthermore for interior goods such as curtains and carpets.

We began operating in September and have already received many good results from our customers. We will continue to use our in-house antiviral testing facilities to respond to the growing market needs while supporting our customers' production of processed formulas, thereby contributing to a cleaner and hygienic living environment.

Note
●Antiviral processing is not intended to treat or prevent diseases.
●Antiviral processing does not inhibit the action of viruses.

※1 Influenza H3N2 virus is the same envelope-type virus as the new type of coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2※2), and is a designated viral species of JIS L1922/ISO18184 (textile product), which is an antiviral test method.
※2 SARS-CoV-2: The viral name of the new type of coronavirus. Abbreviation for Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. COVID-19 stands for the disease name "New Coronavirus Infection" Coronavirus Disease 2019.
※3 CD Polyester: Polyester fiber dyeable with cationic dyes.
